I’ve been lucky enough to work with a lot of inspirational people. However, I think that my boss when I worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota is probably the one person I look up to most in science and who has taught me most. He’s called Steve Sine. Steve is the hardest working person I’ve ever met: not just in science, but in every aspect of his life. He cycled 25 miles into work every day, in temperatures down to -15 C, and would put in at least 12 hours every day (including weekends) in the lab. In his spare time he did triathlons – he came top in his age group in the Hawaii Iron Man. And to cap it all, he is a really nice person! When you work with someone like that, you often end up working your hardest so you don’t disappoint them. That was really great for me because it made me really productive and set me up to get my job in Manchester.
      Best wishes
      Richard

      Dear Hoffsdtater,

My biggest inspiration will always be my grandmother. However, from the scientific community it is Professor Barbara McDermott.

      Best Wishes,

      Hi Hoffsdtater,

My inspiration comes from the desire to alleviate or eliminate suffering from diseases. This is what spurs me on to work in drug discovery and clinical pharmacology.

      Best wishes,
      Alex
